Reform of support for cogeneration

Abstract

The Heat and Power Cogeneration Act (KWKG) entered into force on 1 January 2016 and aims at improving the energy efficiency of energy production in Germany by increasing the net electricity production from combined heat and power generation ("CHP") installations to 110 TWh/year by 2020 and to 120 TWh/year by 2025, as compared to the current yearly production of 96 TWh.
